One of Charlottesville's most neglected road crossings. Huge potential. A keystone in the Safe Routes to School Program & a gateway to the Rivanna Trail.

I love our crossing guards and I love this idea... as long as there are protections in place to eliminate the racial bias of their use. (Yes, even traffic cameras have routinely been used to disproportionately penalize neighborhoods of color around the country.)

After a big snowfall, we see streets naturally reshape and become more complete as cars travel over them and snow builds up. These sneckdowns (or snowy neckdowns) and reveal how much extra space we cede to cars that could be redeveloped into cycling or pedestrian infrastructure.

The future is bright (and walkable!) on this side of town! Thanks,Cville Public Works & Charlottesville City! Now we just need to make it more bike friendly and increase the frequency of the #10 Charlottesville Area Transit bus line. The fewer cars speeding on here, the safer I am for the 🚸 who use me daily.

I think Natalie Oschrin, Cville City Council might be the first candidate to get the coveted "East High at Hazel crappy intersection endorsement" trophy* from me. * Nickel-plated mini ped crossing sign mounted on an onion ring from Riverside.
