I miss John Prine

I just met someone who lost a small fortune in cryptocurrency but is convinced they’ll make it all back if they pick the correct “investments.” How have so many people gotten sucked into this useless technology? They are easy pickings for conmen.

Thanks to the math/computer science professors who gave me a demonstration of how poorly written Bitcoin and Etherium code is and how easy it is to hack both. That and knowing that blockchain is old, mostly useless tech immunized me against the crypto virus.

I can support a ban on proof of work mining more than I’ve supported anything in the last few decades. It’s what made the original Bitcoin white paper read like something from The Onion. I hope the Biden administration continues to develop gonads. #Letsgojoe

Unless you drove in circles near NYC this trip makes no sense. Also, and I say this as someone who lived in and loves South Jersey, no one ever pays a toll to get into NJ. You have to pay to get out.

Advertisers these days are too sensitive. It’s like all they care about is improving a company’s image and increasing demand for its goods and/or services.

Like I always say with content moderation, every social media site owner who is “pro free speech” meets their line eventually. For 4chan, it was anime child porn. For Facebook and YouTube, it was white nationalist terror. For Elon, it was people making fun of him.

Schadenfreude has never been my thing but I’m enjoying the twin bill of crypto implosion and Elon’s self-directed train wreck. Perhaps because both took credit for things they didn’t accomplish and made impossible promises. But I feel bad for innocent people harmed by both.

But I’ll let Sam Cutler express my sentiments to Elon and all those people who convinced vulnerable people to join the cryptocurrency scam.

I’ll miss Twitter if it goes away but one of the positive aspects of capitalism is that if a need truly exists, someone will develop a successful business that fulfills it. Maybe something no one else has thought of. “Something new is waiting to be born.”

I’ve grabbed a few Mastodon accounts but it seems really slow and clunky so far. I’ll give it a shot but it feels like the server is run on a bondi blue iMac from 2001.
