Had a search chair say to me at my first meeting of the day: “Remind me what you do again? You’re the [not my area of research] guy right?” Needless to say, I did not get the offer.

Thank you so much to C&EN (Chemical & Engineering News) for this incredible honor - I really enjoyed listening to inspiring stories from all the incredible #CENT12 honorees. It was an event worth flying in for from Geneva to join this American Chemical Society Meeting in Denver (check out cutest apero cupcakes🧁!)

I had a fantastic time discussing my favorite topics: aptamers, brain research, and academia with the awesome Svilen Georgiev when I spoke at the Max Planck Research School for Neurosciences in Göttingen. Please tune into our episode if you’re interested in some positive academia vibes!

Whew! Very stressed about funding. The balance of getting papers out, writing grants, re-writing grants, waiting 8 months to find out you need to revise and re-write more grants, and all the while doing the rest of the job and spending money to keep the lab running is a lot!
