Having run some virtual Evolution conferences, I'd like to point out that this makes things drastically more open to grad students in less wealthy countries, and notably increases speaker diversity.

My primary issue with dorms when I was in college was just sharing my bedroom; I would have been fine with an even smaller bedroom if it was only me in it. But colleges also have a lot of non-bedrooms to hang out in. I hope some of these SRO buildings have common lounges.

There is a famous example when someone at TSR did a bad global replace of "mage" into "wizard", did not account for only replacing full words, and ended up with a supplement with words like "dawizard" and "iwizard" instead of "damage" and "image". Went to print that way.

I'd like to ask all phycologists who are reading this to kindly send duplicates to my university's herbarium. Although it is small, we are trying to become a reference herbarium in Brazil for macroalgae someday. It is an ambitious plan, but every dream started like that.

Excellent sci fi novel on steep sale today. Survival by @julieczerneda . A population biologist studying minimal viable population size in Pacific salmonids gets swept up in a space opera drama: amazon.com/dp/B001QREWEQ (I've bought some to hand out in a later book giveaway)

Mark-recapture studies have long been used to estimate population numbers. A drawback to this study design is that a changing frequency of new children being named Mark means one would expect a changing incidence of recapture. In this new analysis ... (1/367)

I said earlier I was planning to continue with this site until it shut down. Not the plan any longer. There is no way I'm paying Musk for this service. So if he actually goes through with charging a monthly fee for use, I'm out.

It’s finally finished! A reconstruction of Stegosaurus stenops for Mike Wiser isn't cosplaying a Molecular Biologist, based on the Sophie specimen. I’m really proud of how this one. It was very challenging, and I grew a lot as an artist because of it. #paleoart #sciart #digitalart #stegosaurus #ArtCommission
