The likely next PM - taking a page from Stephen Harper - vows to shut down safe injection sites, thus guaranteeing an increase in deaths. There are 38 safe injection sites in Canada. Let's look at just one. If Insite never existed, nearly 7,000 more people would be dead.

The Dutch invest €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart govts do the math on investing in better mobility. Let’s be clear — it wastes public money to NOT do it. #CityMakingMath HT Melissa & Chris Bruntlett

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users. ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them. Via Streetsblog USA usa.streetsblog.org/2019/05/29/pro…

If you don’t see parents letting their young kids (under 13) ride their own bikes in your area, your bike infrastructure isn’t good enough. Sidewalk level bikeways are my favorite, but even a basic curb can do a lot to make a street safer for people biking & rolling.

Without meaningful changes in forestry practices, firefighting resources & a substantial pivot to renewable energy in an attempt to mitigate climate warming Banff will be next & Alberta will have hobbled their tourism industry in two fell swoops while bowing to a waning industry.

The Dutch invest €500M—€30 per capita—per year in cycling. What is the return? Over 1,000 km and 60 hours of cycling per capita per year; preventing 6,500 deaths and €19B in healthcare. Don’t ask whether you can afford to invest in cycling. Ask whether you can afford not to.

Illegal market vapes, sold as cannabis, but either missold or adulterated with (far more risky) synthetic cannabinoids - are a text book example of how prohibition dramatically increases health harms Legally regulated products reduce this risk to zero theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/o…

The 2nd most populous city in Italy hosted a pilot project using e-cargo bikes instead of vans, and found the companies reduced delivery times 23% and reduced operating costs 40%. Not bad, huh.
