Exactly this! Recruitment is important, and so is retention!! Many argue (myself included) that it is unethical to recruit students from minoritized backgrounds and then subject them to racist policies. Diversifying the pipeline means creating environments for all to thrive in.

I had no clue my tweet would resonate with so many - but I'm reminded that vulnerability breeds connection! I've had a non-traditional academic career and wouldn't trade a thing. That's to say, don't feel trapped. Follow your passion even if it takes you off the beaten path.
