Returns just in from San Antonio’s election for mayor: 102K ballots just dropped (that’s the early and mail vote), and Dem Gina Ortiz Jones leads 52.2% to 47.8% over her GOP opponent. (In the first round last month, early/mail was roughly two-thirds of the total vote.)

The federal government is taking over the California National Guard and deploying 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles — not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle. Don't give them one. Never use violence. Speak out peacefully.

Result: Gina Ortiz Jones will be the next mayor of San Antonio. The Democrat, and former Biden admin official, just defeated Republican Rolando Pablos in the country’s seventh most populous city. (She’s going to replace a retiring Dem.)

Taniel (@taniel) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Governor Abbott’s PAC dumped money on behalf of Pablos, making Democrats sweat in this blue city. They did hold Ortiz Jones to single digits, but not enough for a win. More background here: the-downballot.com/p/morning-dige…

Dallas Metroplex folks: This is your heads up. Tonight’s storms meet the criteria of “worse than usual.” Have multiple ways to receive warnings tonight and remember, with powerful winds and hail as the primary threat, don’t wait for a tornado warning to act.

Power demand was above 77 gigawatts today, extraordinary demand for a Sunday. All-time June record is ~80GW. No conservation alerts because we had plenty of spare capacity. 50% of power on peak came from wind & solar. Wholesale power prices were very low. #txlege #txenergy
