Twenty years ago today, Hurricane Katrina made landfall in New Orleans. At approximately 5:00 AM, the levees broke, flooding 80% of our city. As a result, an estimated 1400 people lost their lives and hundreds of thousands lost their homes. Over half of the victims were Black.

sending special love to the people of Louisiana and Mississippi who were affected, displaced, and forever changed by Katrina. rest in peace to the lives lost. may the world never forget this day.

Katrina showed the world the deep seated anti-Black racism in the US. The world watched as Black people were left without food and water in that stadium, tuned back on a bridge as they were trying to get help, and left on their own to die as the 9th ward flooded

Katrina was one of the most devastating natural disasters in history. Millions of us were left homeless & displaced. 1,390 lives lost 🙏🏾. Families torn apart, entire neighborhoods wiped away. & the lousy president at that time? He didn’t rush to our aid, he took his precious

Rest in peace to all of the lives lost, connections severed, memories stolen, and our childhood homes that were washed away… Hurricane Katrina was truly devastating and the city is still suffering to this day! I will forever love New Orleans and our strength to overcome!

A 14-year-old Black boy was brutally attacked by a group of white teens at a barn party in Wisconsin. They tried to put him into a meat grinder. The Sheriff showed up that night for a FIRE — not the assault. This is the third Black boy who has been targeted at this same barn.

It’s great to see outlets like the AP & Times covering Mayor Braxton’s story out of Newbern, AL. I was the first national reporter to cover it — going back to '23 — and only reporter on the ground on Election Day. Grateful for our work at Capital B for elevating this injustice.

I try not to be gruesome on here but lemme be clear: If your dog bites someone and isn’t vaccinated for rabies, your dog will be tested. To test a dog for rabies, they behead them and grind up their brain tissue. You will never get your dog or even their ashes back.
