#OTD in 1853 the 1st issue of The Provincial Freeman was printed in Windsor. It moved to Toronto in 1854 then Chatham (1855). #DYK It had multiple editors including William P. Newman, H. Ford Douglass & Isaac Shadd, but Mary Ann Shadd was the driving force behind the newspaper.

Today is the 170th anniversary of the first newspaper published by a Black woman, #MaryAnnShaddCary. She became a writer, abolitionist, and newspaperwoman after teaching in Black schools for more than a decade. #EDI #SocialJustice #InternationalWomensMonth

May 17th marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (#IDAHOT). Lambton Kent DSB we recognize the progress made and the progress that still needs to be made to protect people from discrimination based on sexuality, gender identity, and gender expression.
