Big Fun catching the opening night of Nate Smith & friends new tour to a packed house Dakota. I dig both Nate’s playing & his music. Never short on virtuosity but he doesn’t play over the audience’s heads yet never does he pander to them, either. It’s pure soul!

This riff popped into my head when I was behind the wheel so I jotted it down. Like a catchy melody it has a hook to it! I encourage my students to build a repertoire of their own ideas and develop them. If you’re looking for help in this direction, DM me-the door is open! 🥁🚪👍
