Imagine if evangelicals (of which I am one) spent as much time exhorting new believers to be baptized as they did justifying why baptism is a completely unnecessary "work" that the thief on the cross never "did." To live in life-long disobedience to a direct command of Jesus

I just love stories like this. I love how they trigger the inner skeptic in me and remind me that the world is full of the strangeness of God. I also love that most of these miracles are actually “a guy from church” or “the old praying grandma” and not a guy on a big platform.

Next verse: "I am raising up the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwellings not their own." Can we not have some respect for the context here? This is a judgement text, not a "breakthrough" text.

Churches will seriously find the most creative ways to commit heresies when they create their statement of faith. What does this even mean?

There are so many Charismatic leaders whose Christology is abysmal simply because they refuse to read the creeds. Whenever we think we have the capacity to create a Christology from scratch, we will always create an inferior one. It is pure arrogance, nothing more.

Why is it so hard for leaders to say: "This is not God. You did not see Jesus. You did not hear Him say any of this." If we as pastors can't look people in the eyes and just say, "Knock it off" when they turn their delusions into spiritual experiences, are we really shepherds?

"It is this communion with God by means of "matter" that reveals the true meaning of "matter," i.e., of the world itself." -Alexander Schmemann on the sacraments

Transubstantiation, while not a "heresy," does overthrow the nature of the sacrament because it fundamentally obscures the logical principle of Christ's incarnational presence. It is sacramental docetism. The entire principle of the incarnation, as expressed later at Chalcedon,

Keller is experiencing a mid 2000's Creed moment. Almost everyone still likes him, but a handful of loud, obnoxious people made it unpopular to say so publicly. In 20 years everyone will come out of hiding again and confess their love for Keller.
