Glad to have this work with Roozbeh Kiani published in JNP!! journals.physiology.org/doi/epdf/10.11… We developed a novel episodic memory task that allowed us to separably probe what, where, and when memory without explicitly asking participants to focus on one component (1/2)

Proud to report john sakon (johnsakon @ bsky)'s new paper has been published in PNASNews! pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn… We find hippocampal--but not extrahippocampal MTL--high frequency ripples reflect the retrieval of *episodic* memories. This phenomenon is consistent with...(1/3)

Check out some new work led by john sakon (johnsakon @ bsky) where we find new links between hippocampal ripples and episodic encoding mechanisms, qualifying previous results and confirming predictions based on the rodent literature (Joo and Frank 2018)!

🚨New Paper🚨 Extremely excited that my first paper, "Hippocampal theta and episodic memory" was published today in SfN Journals #JNeurosci !!! Many thanks to Penn Memory Lab and my co-authors Nora Herweg Michael Kahana! TLDR: theta ~ recall Check it out: jneurosci.org/content/43/4/6… 1/3

New preprint with Penn Memory Lab! 📜🧠 Leveraging EEG recordings and machine learning, we designed a system to guide learning in a memory task -- modifying stimulus timing to present items when they were predicted to "stick" in a person's memory doi.org/10.1101/2023.0… 1/

In the moments leading up to a spontaneous recollection, we were able to use neural signals to discern between correct and false memories about to be retrieved. Check out our new paper, now out in PNAS! PNASNews ! 1/7 pnas.org/doi/full/10.10…

New paper with Penn Memory Lab, David Halpern! Free-recall paradigms are commonly used to study memory in lab settings. How do the reliability and validity of these lab-based paradigms compare with traditional neuropsychological memory measures? Check here: psycnet.apa.org/record/2024-18…

*VERY* excited to be featured in SfN Journals's "This Week in The Journal" for our new work: jneurosci.org/content/44/8/e… Will write a quick tweet thread below (with figures) to introduce what we (Michael Kahana, David Halpern, Daniel Schonhaut as part of the Penn Memory Lab) did! (1/5)

"Decoding EEG for optimizing naturalistic memory" out now in Journal of Neuroscience Methods!! ElsevierNeuroscience TLDR; we trained neural decoders to predict memory success, then applied them to present items when people were predicted to learn well doi.org/10.1016/j.jneu…
