The human condition is being stuck between wanting total control of your destiny and also for someone else to tell you what you want for lunch and be right.

In my time in show business, I have never met a crew member in any department who would choose to work non-union over a union job. This is generally true in all industries but you simply will not find even one token person who would say that in entertainment.

Not convinced at all that weed makes anyone “too paranoid” I think it just makes you realize that you are a fragile thing that’s going to die someday, and that’s a good reason to get high. Occasionally.

Hard for me to shit on basically any tv show or movie that gets made because I’m just glad people are working. Every show that goes means industry jobs doesn’t matter to me if it’s good or if it’s garbage

Probably not by creating the intellectual equivalent of a WWF Cage match for views. This is what Jon Stewart was saying about Crossfire. Set a table with good things to eat and drink, don't set a combat arena in the round.

Trying to write for TV has always been like trying to get into the NFL, to be one of around 25k people who have ever done it - but now it's more like trying to be one in around 644 which is how many people have been to space.

What perplexes me the most is the way that right wing "thinkers" have learned how to mimic the cadence of the public intellectual to the point that the public intellectual entirely withdrew. They killed the public intellectual. An era of terrible performance art has replaced it.

In Verner Vinges "Rainbow's End" they can't train their AI fast enough on printed books so they devise a machine that shreds books and blows them through a giant fan filled with scanners. The AI digitally reassembles the shredded fragments. Doesn't feel too on the nose now.

Undetectable since 2012. It really reframes your whole perspective when "one of the worst things that can happen to a person" is so manageable.

One thing I love about Mike White is that while he writes "prestige TV" he is a showman with a bit of the carnival barker/pro wrestler you need to create great mass art.
