This week, we’ve been continuing to remove the displays in Period House. The Entrance Hall and the Victorian Parlour are now looking very bare indeed! Much of the furniture has been removed, and the ceramics are settling nicely into their new homes in our stores.

The History Hub's #SundayShot is this view of the Bear and Billet on Lower Bridge Street, #Chester dated June 1962. It was originally the town house of the Earl of Shrewsbury and takes its name from the Earl's heraldic device of a bear shackled to a stake or billet.

Tomorrow is the longest day of the year, also known as the summer solstice. In Neolithic times, it is believed that the solstice marked the time to plant and harvest crops. This neolithic hoe was dredged out of the River Weaver near Weaverham and would have been used for farming.
