The arguments seem to be coalescing around a society view or an economic view. We either protect society or the economy. I can’t see either surviving as it was and both need to change.

I can see a way forward where ring fencing hotspots corral viral outbreaks while governments enact Keynesian plans to rebuild the fire damaged communities, build future research and productive capabilities.

This might look like a planned socialist democratic model that also accommodates capitalist venturs but is not dominated by it. Building an Australia not driven by its past but drawn by its future provides far more freedom of direction
