There is no community agreement on the need to research this more Guardian Science In fact, most polar scientists think these ideas are economically and practically unfeasible, environmentally dangerous, and have major governance and ethics issues! theguardian.com/science/articl…

This is my Terrible Maps inspired map of wildfires in Antarctica. So how did we use Antarctica to tell us about fire activity in this new paper👇? pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn… 🔥🧊🔥

Very nice piece by Alex Robel on the new Morlighem et al paper in Science Advances. Take-home message is that the so-called 'marine ice-cliff instability' isn't as likely to collapse the West #Antarctic Ice Sheet as previously claimed by DeConto & Pollard.science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Some potentially good news from #Antarctica this morning, which is that the so-called 'marine ice-cliff instability' isn't as likely to rapidly collapse the West Antarctic Ice Sheet as previously suggested by some studies science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Many examples this August of glaciers across Svalbard that have essentially lost all snow cover and where firn area has rapidly been lost, just one example of climate stress in Svalbard.

New paper w/ PNASNews featuring #zircon #geochemistry from two of the oldest fragments of continental crust! People often talk about a transition from stagnant-to mobile-lid tectonics during the #Archean, but our results reveal early tectonic diversity! pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
