HMRC Press Office Gurpreet Narwan I have just seen this staggering tweet from HMRC (screenshot below in case the original is withdrawn). It is indeed HMRC's responsibility to collect the tax people legally owe. But the loan charge seeks to collect that OTHER people owed. THAT IS WHY IT IS SO OFFENSIVE.

The Chancellor has announced that the Government will commission an independent review into the #LoanCharge. This is very positive news & something the APPG has been consistently calling for. The review must be genuinely independent & must look at the whole #LoanChargeScandal.

After years of campaigning I am pleased that the Labour Government have committed to an independent review of the Loan Charge. Ministers have listened to the concerns that many of us have raised about the treatment of those impacted by the Loan Charge.
