In the 15 years from 1950 to 1965, 747 km of railways were closed in Northern Ireland. That amount is more than double the length of the current network.

Before the decimation of Northern Ireland's railways, a multitude of destinations could be reached direct from Belfast. Here's the evening rush hour departures from the three termini on a weekday in July 1922.

Found this old CIÉ rail and bus map between the pages of a book from a charity shop. I believe it is from 1958 just before the division of the Great Northern Railway Board between the two jurisdictions.

Does anyone know if a through station was ever considered? I've sketched out a route which uses undeveloped land. It could have been cost-effectively built using sunken and cut and cover sections with plenty of room at Bankmore Street for the station.
