Once you start thinking of the safety net as an investment in future generations, it's very hard to think of it in any other way. Really enjoyed chatting about my research on this topic with Heller-Hurwicz Economics Institute.

For our honors program, swarthmoreecon hosted a fantastic group of external honors examiners for our students earlier this week. Thank you for joining us this year - I had a great time meeting everyone!

Is it easy to get a job with an econ PhD? Of course not. But does it at least give you a great work life balance? Also no.

🚨New WP alert 🚨 We study how conflicts affect behavior using data from chess.com. Here is a link to our draft: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf… Currently we focus on the Ukraine Russia war and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts, with Israel-Palestine conflict to be added soon.

In my experience, the only situation in which data.table/ggplot is not the far-away best data analysis combo is when the size of the data approaches or exceeds RAM.

We Economía ITAM are hiring: econjobmarket.org/positions/10938 ITAM is a wonderful academic home, its salaries are competitive with those in the US (in absolute terms), and CDMX is truly a wonderful place to live. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. (cc Horacio Larreguy)

We have 12 fantastic Industrial Organization Society (IOS) sessions this year. Lots of great research with many job-market candidates presenting. If you're attending SEAs, hope to see you in a session! #EconTwitter Search Allied-IOS in program. sea.mymeetingsavvy.net/program#details

I count 14(!) papers by FTC econs in the overall SEA program this year! I'll be presenting new work asking: 1. What's a reasonable economic notion of "open source" or "open weights" AI? 2. How does "openness" affect competition & the direction and amt of innovation?
