"All it takes is consistency in the gym to get strong" is not entirely true After a few years, it takes proper programming, nutrition + ruthless prioritization If you want to continuously improve, you've got to work hard AND smart

I’m working on staying consistent with things I completely suck at I mean things I absolutely HATE doing Take running I’m that kid who finished last every race So now I’m gonna reverse that Keeping this here to hold myself accountable

People’s problems usually start far before the outcome If you gained 10 pounds, it’s not because of your last few days of eating out and drinks It’s the constant binging habits were never tackled

I started strength training because I wanted it to improve my performance in sports. Recently, I’ve been taking up volleyball I still suck at majority of things, but my baseline is much higher because of training in all the compound lifts Strength training is king

In this Information Age, everyone knows how important lifting is Some may even know how to program But so few are able to commit and take action

Kyle Chen (@coachkylechen) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Lifting and running are such different beasts In lifting, the first 6 months are about pushing yourself each rep to try and lift the most weight possible. I’m running, your first 6 months are focused on maintaining a low heart rate to build your base. Polar opposites.

Everybody knows maintenance is easier than building Don’t let some Gainz-oil salesman trick you into thinking otherwise Getting Jacked to the gills is NOT done in 20 minute sessions 3days/week Try Harder. Believe in yourself PUT IN THE WORK!

STRENGTH STANDARDS: Squat: More than you did 6 months ago Deadlift: More than you did 6 months ago Bench: More than you did 6 months ago Press: More than you did 6 months ago Chin-ups: More than you did 6 months ago Measure progress against yourself. Not others.

Consistency + drive will always beat what’s optimal You can strive for what’s optimal later If you’re not putting in the work consistently, there is no optimal

No taint warmups for todays squats, just squatted to warmup for squats Thane | mr. suboptimal Sam Krapf Super light squats, 255x5 at RPE 0 and finished off with 145x20. 3 mile run tomorrow, and a 4 miler on Saturday!

Client to me today: “yeah but it’s different because you love to exercise” Me to the client: “no, I love to be healthy, and I realize it’s just a part of what must be done” Huge difference. A mindset shift is the most important part of getting/being healthy
