We're at a vital Global Centre for Climate Mobility #COP30 panel on UN Land and Drought-UN Climate Change synergies to respond to the climate-crisis. Land degradation, mobility and climate impacts are not separate crises. They are one interconnected reality. People on the move cannot wait for fragmented systems to catch up.

As the #COP30 venue floods from heavy rain, it is a stark reminder that climate impacts are no longer projections. They are here, shaping even the spaces where we negotiate our response.

⚖️ At today's #COP30 discussion on climate displacement solutions, consensus is clear: the recent #ICJ ruling is not just about recognising #climate change. It is a historic step toward establishing accountability for communities already living with loss, damage and displacement.

🌍 Knowledge gaps in addressing the links between human mobility, #climate and conflict lead to significant limitations, which creates a lack of policy coherence. Cross-border, sub-regional and regional cooperation is essential to inclusive, impactful and lasting peace solutions.

#COP30 negotiations are, predictably, expected to last beyond the foreseen schedule. The Summit rarely finishes on time and, while delegations anticipate this, spiralling accommodation and transport costs often exclude smaller countries during the most crucial negotiation stages.

As #COP30 closes, we reflect on two hectic weeks of negotiations, discussions & #ClimateMobility advocacy. We asked IOM - UN Migration 🇺🇳 Deputy Director General Ugochi Daniels: If you could share one message with young African researchers working on climate mobility, what would it be?

Climate adaptation solutions, including effective disaster risk reduction, are to strengthen community resilience. As #COP30 concludes, IOM 🇧🇮 calls for greater investment in adaptation measures that empower communities to anticipate, withstand, and recover from climate shocks.
