The duties of the Rangers are to report unusual activities, do sovereignty patrols and provide surveillance of the Canadian North. They also take part in disaster relief and search and rescue. Many Inuit, Dene, Cree, Metis and Anishinaabe join the Rangers. 🧵4/10

Each Ranger was provided with a .303 Lee-Enfield Rifle, an armband and a yearly allotment of 200 rounds of ammunition. In 2018, the Lee-Enfield was replaced with the C19 rifle. The expertise of the Rangers made them invaluable as a military force in the North. 🧵5/10
