I added a banner when picking up objects. It required a sprite zero hit behind the banner to properly scroll the text on screen. The wipe at the end is a side effect of needing to clear both nametables over 16 frames. #nes #gamedev #metroidvania

There seems to be a trend of Princess Peach resprites. I wanted to stay true to the original so the dress is horizontally flipped. I also avoided black as it would be transparent in front of a background on the NES.
