Yes! And the really hard part about this? It means we need not just be okay with awkward silences. We need to build in WAIT TIME. Because how in the world can Ss think if we literally never give them the time to? #ELMagChat

A2: Even in early childhood divisive issues spark passion, but we must scaffold with how to think about the issue before crafting the opposing viewpoint. We can’t counter within understanding. Nor will we change someone else’s opinion.

Lol, I love seeing this today! Been coaching several teachers on metacognition and think alouds when introducing new topics. Teaching what to think isn’t the point, but how to think, and how to see what we don’t yet understand! Metacognition in PreK!

A5: Scaffold the response, expect all students to contribute and that means for some students… give the topic ahead of time to prep them for the discussion. Peer recognition matters. Teach sts. to listen & recognize the thoughts from others even when we don’t agree. .#ELMagChat
