District 230 teachers and staff are back and ready for students and the 2024.25 school year!

D230 is seeking applicants for a School Board vacancy. The replacement will serve until April 2025. Those interested may download an application from d230.org/BOEApplication. Applications must be received by 4pm Aug 16. A candidate will be appointed at the Sept 19 Board meeting.

It's a wrap for the District 230 Institute Day 2024-25. It was a day for collaboration, learning, and growing together! Our amazing staff is diving into new ideas, sharing best practices, and gearing up to make this school year the best one yet.

Orland Park police officer and Carl Sandburg School Resource Officer Chuck Kirby was awarded the Grand Cordon for his dedication and determination in the arrest of persons responsible for numerous criminal acts throughout the area. Congratulations and thank you for your service!

Eagle EL/English students are hard at work! In EL Resource, students dive into traditions, while others master nouns, verbs, and adjectives. English 1 students annotate for characterization, and sophomores are busy dissecting characters and themes. Keep up the great work!

With temperatures predicted to exceed 90 degrees the next few days, District 230 is taking precautions.

Last evening, those walking the halls, sitting at desks, and taking notes were a bit older than our typical Eagles, Chargers and T-Bolts. Back to School Nights gave parents/guardians the chance to run through their child's schedule and learn about our award-winning schools.

VJA English students discussed what a hero is before reading To Kill a Mockingbird, while Concert Choir worked on three-part harmonies. In Criminal Minds, students are working on a school safety project, and in EL Global Issues, students designed a t-shirt for a global market.

Congratulations to D230 Board of Education member Susan Dalton who was appointed as the new Vice President and Tony Serratore who was appointed as the new Secretary. The Board re-organized following the resignation of Patrick O'Sullivan. Thank you both for your continued service.

Sandburg summer facility improvements have wrapped up! A few of the projects include flooring in the central building, bathrooms (near main gym and PAC), as well as painting of the west exterior.

Chargers started school with half of the expansion project complete, including new classrooms and a rooftop environmental space, in addition to new flooring and lighting in the 300 hallway. Facility improvements are always at the top of the summer TO DO list!

Andrew staff and students received a new pool deck and starting blocks, paint in the West Gym, and an improved Dance Studio. In addition, thanks to the legislative efforts of State Senator Hastings, the T-Bolts also received an electronic stadium scoreboard!

District 230 - and especially our T-Bolts - thank State Senator Hastings for all his legislative efforts to help secure a new scoreboard at Victor J. Andrew High School!

In recognition of Labor Day, there will be no school Monday, Sept 2. See you Tuesday!
