I met this man Tom today who set up a small private school in Staffordshire. They had 33 kids. Now they have 25. It is now hard for the school to survive. £6000 per year. Suddenly add on £1200 to fees cause of VAT and families have to drop out. Seems desperately unfair.😳

Commons debate on VAT on private schools slated for March 3 after petition objecting went above 100,000. Educ' Sec Bridget Phillipson won't be there because of diary commitments. Cowardice more like

Indeed. Bridget Philipson did not speak to a single school leader of a successful school until some of us started making lots of noise about this Bill. She wrote that Bill without any advice from school leaders.

Labour axing the Latin Excellence Programme half way through the academic year is just vindictive. The programme, which was cancelled at the end of Feb, has benefited some of the most deprived children up & down the country. Labour seem to be hell-bent on weakening education

They are betraying children with their position on smartphones and with the Education Bill which will destroy schools. These decisions will especially hurt poor kids. I thought Labour was meant to stand up for the poor? Utterly baffling.😳 thetimes.com/life-style/par…

This is what the Education Secretary doesn’t understand. People and politicians from around the world come to England to see what we are doing so well in our schools thanks to the freedoms that Phillipson is about to take away with her Ed Bill. brusselstimes.com/1478551/flemis…

Decolonising Shakespeare’s birthplace.🙄 A note from one of my teachers on this: Shakespeare not only perfectly captured the human condition, but was a revolutionary in so many ways. Not that the bard should need defending, but you'd expect the woke-left to be celebrating him

Adding VAT on Private Education is such a good, solid, watertight idea that Rachel Reeves has spent hundreds of thousands on 4KC's to defend it. mol.im/a/14503169 via Mail Online Thats hundreds of thousands of YOUR money. Education Not Taxation @Ham_Sandwich___ Victoria

Labour’s Schools Bill will enable local authorities to stop good schools from expanding, or staying the same size. This is madness. It’s a move which will see parental choice taken away, failing schools propped up & mediocrity rewarded. rb.gy/frvcwt

💰State schools are getting just a 0.5% funding boost, while costs rise by 3.6%. Schools are already making cuts—how will they cope when more pupils and more SEN children are forced in by #Labour’s #SchoolFeeVAT? Education needs investment, not ideology. They can and should

Pitting private against state is a serious misstep. Labour had the chance to take a more constructive approach with collaboration, striking the right balance, and learning from success wherever it’s found. Instead, they’ve fuelled division. Disappointing.
