A new school year means new, safer ways to get to school! CDOT is enhancing pedestrian safety with upgrades like raised crosswalks at Saucedo Academy in Little Village and curb bump-outs at Nash Elementary in Austin, making walks to school safer and easier for families.

CDOT is using a wide variety of design tools to increase pedestrian space, reduce crossing distances, and encourage slower and safer driving speeds. Learn more about this infrastructure on the Chicago Complete Streets website here: chicago.gov/city/en/sites/…

We had an amazing time leading a cycling program at Bret Harte Elementary! Over 4 weeks, we taught beginners to ride and helped experienced riders sharpen their skills. Big thanks to Outride for their support through the Riding for Focus program, providing bikes and helmets!

Chicago’s newest neighborhood bikeway is already bustling! The Berwyn Greenway connects to the Lakefront Trail and community destinations like local businesses and the Berwyn CTA station. CDOT will expand it west in 2025. The 48th Ward — Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth

ELPC's Lena Guerrero Reynolds led a field trip biking the lakefront trail to Chicago ParkDistrict Northerly Island with Chicago’s SAFE Ambassadors & National Parks Conservation Association. We heard about shoreline resilience amid a changing climate, clean transportation as climate action, and connecting diverse communities with nature.

This week, we launched the Smart Streets Pilot Program to improve safety and accessibility by keeping our bus and bike lanes clear. Be smart, avoid a ticket!
