This has to be one of Keith Wickham's best performances in the whole show. Skarloey has so much gravitas and mysticism in his voice that you, just like Thomas, are itching to find out more about this reclusive engine, complete with stellar music to accompany this pivotal moment.

A lengthy mixed train consisting mostly of cattle wagons leaves Ballinluig, the junction for the former Highland Railway branch to Aberfeldy, on 23 August 1961, hauled by 0-4-4T No 55217, a Caledonian design dating from 1900. This line lost its passenger services in May 1965.

One of I.W. Boulton's strangest creations was Rattlesnake, cobbled together from a traction engine & named for the sound & look of its chains. Its first job was grinding mortar for the new LNWR station at Stockport in 1864 & was sold in January 1884 to Trehowel Colliery for £100.
