Thanks Officer Getchel of To Serve and Protect Department for making the rescue of an Ovenbird early this morning. The migratory bird was down with impact related head trauma at the Key West Ferry Terminal. The patient is recovering in our clinic and will be returned to the wild.

Thanks to a caller on NAS Key West Sigsbee Base for reporting a Black Racer snake in distress, entangled in a fishing cast net. We were able to make the rescue and safely remove the native snake from the net. The patient has already been returned to home territory back on base.

☄️ New exhibition, opening at the Museum on November 17! Impact: The End of the Age of Dinosaurs will explore how an asteroid impact 66 million years ago changed life on Earth forever, leading to the extinction of non-bird dinosaurs and the majority of animal and plant species.

Considered the earliest independent still life to focus on the theme of vanitas—a reminder that life is short—this painting is full of symbols of fleeting time: a skull, a delicate bubble, fading flowers, and a smoking urn. Look closer at the bubble and you’ll see haunting

Throwback Thursday! Do you remember the 1970s? 💃🕺Saturday Night Fever was playing at the theaters and disco was pumping at Studio 54. What was happening at the Museum? We were opening a Gems and Minerals Hall, complete with carpet, a sunken pit, and cave-like lighting.

Wowza! It's been a while since I saw a Cooper's Hawk in Central Park--and one was waiting for me atop a North Meadow backstop! They always strike me as one of the fiercest-looking raptors! 😱😱😱 #Hawks #CentralPark #birdcpp

In 2011, 2,753 chairs were placed on the lawn to remember the 2,753 lives lost on a day that changed our world forever. As we mark the 24th anniversary of 9/11, we honor the lives that were lost that day, and the bravery of all who answered the call. We will #neverforget 🇺🇸💚.

A first-year female Red-tailed Hawk rescued down on Big Pine Key last night night by Jim Hale. The migratory traveler is recovering in our clinic. We are hoping for a quick release of this Raptor once our evaluation is complete. keywestwildlifecenter.org
