Anyone else think a ten-point graded report card, including graded teacher observations, is going to be the thing that pushes many dedicated teachers clinging on to think, you know what… it’s not worth it, I’m out?

The new Ofsted proposals being discussed at the moment are concerning, particularly the separation of curriculum and instruction. Some thoughts 🧵

Recently I called Sir Martyn Oliver, the chief inspector of Ofsted, a liar on this platform. Despite this, Ofsted very kindly walked me through their proposals for the new inspection system. I am sorry to say that my feelings are probably even more entrenched than they were…

An excellent blog by Ros McMullen and Julie Price Grimshaw deep-diving the dreadful Ofsted proposals. Ros and Julie are part of a charity created to support the mental health of school leaders. In a civilised society, such an organisation should never have had to exist. headrestuk.co.uk/blog/missed-op…

I’ve been fearing this announcement for the past year, but somehow seeing Amanda Spielman’s moment of triumph lauded by—of all people—Michael Gove in The Spectator, really is salt in a very raw wound. A peerage should not be the automatic reward for holding a crown appointment…

I have reviewed the YouGov survey results conducted on behalf of Ofsted. Data is here: teachertoolkit.co.uk/wp-content/upl… Only 51% of 1,090 parents say they have any knowledge of Ofsted! This is a WEAK start if Ofsted wish to base any future inspection framework on these findings.

So, despite all we've learned, despite the Perry family's pain, despite the clear ethical contradiction, Keir Starmer has chosen to nod through Amanda Spielman's peerage. The same Amanda Spielman whose leadership at Ofsted corroded trust and dehumanised educators...

I was incredibly proud to be asked to add my name to the open letter sent to Bridget Phillipson on Monday—and hopefully the letter will not be the only act of this wonderful coalition of voices from across education (watch this space)…

Session 3 at Festival of Education 🇬🇧 with Dr Haili Hughes FRSA focused on the science of dialogue: coaching for decision making. Great to hear from someone doing the research AND in schools walking and walk ⭐ - models and frameworks for coaching are great for scaffolding. If not, it becomes

Josh Trebach, MD My grandma tried to convert me to be a right hand writer. The only time I ever wrote with my right hand was when I broke both my wrists in 6th grade, but, my left wrist was broken in half, both bones, and that cast went all the way up to my shoulder and I had limited range with

Julia, Ruth’s sister, was astounded to be told by the DfE and Secretary of State that alternatives to the high-stakes system were never considered. So who chose to ignore Parliament, when the Select Committee asked Ofsted to “look beyond the English context” to other systems?...

In January, I called Ofsted’s chief inspector, Sir Martyn Oliver, a liar for misrepresenting the coroner’s findings on Ruth Perry’s death. I’d like to be more conciliatory about his performance at Tuesday’s select committee hearing—but I can’t…
