On Monday Columbia announced it will delay $8K in stipend payments to many grad students this fall, a tactic engineered to make us more precarious ahead of a likely strike. W/ just 1mo notice, many of us won't be able to afford rent or groceries as a result. This is an emergency.

We are at nearly 900 𝓈𝒾ℊ𝓃𝒶𝓉𝓊𝓇ℯ𝓈 on our petition to restore $8k (!!) to grad workers at the start of this fall semester ✷ * 𝐻𝑒𝑙𝑝 𝑢𝑠 𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑡𝑜 * ⋆ . · ⋆ ˚ ˚ ✦ 。☆✼★━━━━1000━━━━★✼☆。 docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI…

How will the stipend change affect workers? Based on cost of living estimates, students who usually rely on the lump sum payment to cover their expenses will be in DEBT by the end of September. #fairwage @ColumbiaCanAffordIt

Columbia's Dan Driscoll thinks it is inappropriate to show up to his office with a petition, but fine and dandy to withhold $8k from grad workers to increase their financial instability to bust any coming strikes

Using data from the MIT living wage calculator, we analyzed how our stipends compare with those of our "peer institutions" after adjusting for the local cost of living. JHU had the lowest gross and second lowest adjusted pay out of ten universities. See the rankings below. 1/x

New York is flooding and Columbia University is making sure many Student Workers of Columbia grad students start the school year with only $2,600. Some on 9-month contracts have not seen a paycheck since May. Very many will need extra $ help to pay bills. If you can, donate here: bit.ly/poorgrads

Only 4 days left to vote in the SAV! A strong #SAVyes turn out makes it clear to Columbia that we are ready to fight for the strong contract we deserve.

The COVID-19 scenario at UMichigan sounds like the one at Columbia University: 'Susan Collins, the provost, says: “We are not seeing transmission in our classrooms.”' Substitute Susan Collins with Amy Hungerford: chronicle.com/article/the-dy…

Instead of donating to Columbia’s bloated endowment this #columbiagivingday, support Columbia student workers who received a 0% raise from the university this year. opencollective.com/student-worker…

Unless Columbia agrees to a fair contract, over 3000 student workers strike November 3. We are ready to fight for a contract that guarantees a living wage, dental and vision coverage, and a safe workplace. #faircontractnow #CUonStrike
