Symmetry. Hephzibah Baptist Chapel, Bedwas. Built 1851,modified 1875. The plaque over the doorway states an establishment date of 1844.

The Rev. Edward Jones 1852-1931 known as Iorwerth Ddu was Bethania’s most prominent minister. He was a former miner who had been injured underground. He was ordained in 1877. Following pastorates in mid Wales and the Valleys, he was minister at Bethania 1894-1930.

Many chapels are now under threat from closure, dereliction and demolition, and because of this, the Royal Commission has been recording chapels across Wales for many years. We now hold records for nearly 7,000 chapels covering every community in Wales.
