It seems a tad ludicrous that despite years Air New Zealand being unable to staff it’s phone system it still requires customers to call to change. Boosting online capacity seems an obvious solution that would allow customers to make own changes —> less burden on the call centre

On 2023 Census | Aotearoa New Zealand NZ | 7 March 23 NZ, one of the racial categories is "NZ European." No other racial groups get the NZ qualifier, because apparently you have to be white to be a NZer in this country. This is problematic and othering. Words in Stuff: stuff.co.nz/stuff-nation/1…

No-one in the story denies there’s a nursing shortage: point raised is the numbers used aren’t reflective of the shortage. Seems unwise to use such numbers to conflate a well established issue and undermine policy that was otherwise welcomed by many.

Visiting family in the #Philippines for the 1st time since #Covid appeared. Existing #inequalities more apparent now. Covid tests here cost 300 PHP - equivalent to the same, if not more, than many people’s daily wage and antivirals seem to not be freely available to those at risk

This week Celebrity Update asked Health NZ why some job ads wrote applications from foreign nurses who’d just finished their competency assessment wouldn’t be accepted. It said it was a mistake and took the ads down. But recruiters say despite a nursing shortage, the nurses can’t find jobs

Speechless… big loss of an amazing pool of senior, experienced talent. If this goes, I struggle to see us coming back from here. It’s a loss to journalism today, for the future, and for those minority voices and complex stories that are often overlooked in the daily grind.

The last few weeks as a journalist has been so disheartening. As someone who loves what I do it’s hard to watch. But the news today that @fairgonz and @sundaytvnz will end is particularly devastating. Last year I did a story for Sunday about raising a child with a disability.
