I lost my sister yesterday & then I heard the news about #JerryGrote , another #69Met teammate passing away. I don’t want to answer my phone anymore. How do we get through days like yesterday? We just need to keep telling loved ones & friends how special they are! #Life

For those of us old enough to have grown up watching and loving the @mets of the 1960s and beyond, we’ve lost another piece of our youth. Jerry Grote has passed away at age 81. The perfect catcher for that wonderful pitching staff. Another 1969 Met is gone. This hurts. RIP.

Sad news tonight...the greatest defensive catcher in New York Mets history and one of the toughest players in the history of MLB -- #JerryGrote --has passed away. The starting catcher of both the #69Mets championship and #73Mets pennant-winning teams.

This will be a great read. There will be some unreal, never before told stories in this.

OK, the actual Opening Day was in Korea. Today is the Western Heminsphere Opening Day; my favorite was '86, when Dwight Evans homered in Tiger Stadium off Jack Morris, although Tigers beat Sammy Stewart for the Tiger win. I miss it beginning in Cincinnati, where it belongs.

Bill Buckner throws out the first pitch at Fenway Park with tears in his eyes as Red Sox fans give him a standing ovation.

#Ohtani is a class act and a generational MLB player. But his 'no questions permitted' press conference left us with more questions than answers.

One other thing about this patch. It strikes a perfect chord that next to his number 3 it says, simply, “Buddy”. Anyone who ever knew Derrel McKinley Harrelson can testify that as soon as you got to know him he was, in fact, your buddy. A beautiful tribute to a wonderful man.

#BuddyHarrelson was New York Mets royalty and this is once again proof of how current ownership embraces the team's past. Awesome to see.

What in the world? Who makes this stuff up?

For too long, Shohei Ohtani has taken responsibility for little besides his on-field performance.

He will be 30 in July. He has to act like it by exerting greater control over other parts of his life. He doesn’t want to be caught up in another scandal.
