#FindsFriday These 3 fragments of a decorated Samian bowl were found this summer and fitted together after washing. Samian (or Terra Sigillata) was the most commonly used high quality pottery from Roman Britain. Can anyone here tell us anything more about the decoration?

A lovely day (in the warm!) today processing Iron Age, Bronze Age & Roman pottery finds from our summer dig at Rocky Clump. What a lovely bunch of people to spend a Saturday with! So great to be able to see these finds up close and all cleaned up after the dig :) #Archaeology

What a find yesterday - Trewhiddle strap-end in silver, 9th century. Found by a metal detectorist in our group, as its silver it will be declared as treasure. Once that process is complete we'll be donating it to the museum. Our first from this period. Delighted 😊 Portable Antiquities & Treasure

Why were wild boar so important in ancient Sussex? This tiny copper-alloy boar (50 BC–100 AD) is one of many found in Sussex - but was it a statue, a sacred object, or something more? Join Dr Reb Ellis-Haken tomorrow for our next Spring Talk! 📅 Tues 4 Feb, 7.30pm via Zoom

Our find of the week has to be this big chunk of cauldron rim…found by the aptly-named Big John! ⭐️We’ve been lucky all week with the weather here in #Brighton with only a little bit of rain softening the soil for us- perfect! (plus we’ve had lots of cake!)
