Matthew spent a lot of time in his older brother’s shadow, but his death is no less tragic. He was on a hockey journey of his own, having moved into the high school coaching ranks. His widow Madeline is pregnant with their first child. An unimaginable tragedy on so many levels.

You can hear a pin drop outside the Saddledome right now. Hundreds of Calgarians gather in silence. I wanted to share this photo. No matter what team you cheer for, this is a tragic day.

Thinking back to the video tribute the first time Johnny Gaudreau returned to Calgary after signing with Columbus. He couldn't look up at the jumbotron. The booing soon turned to cheers. This is so heartbreaking and heartwarming to look back on now.

Johnny & Matt Gaudreau’s funeral will be held on Monday here at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Media, PA. “While they are not from the parish, several members of our community are close to their families, so they have requested to have their joint Funeral Mass here.”
