A few years ago, the line "The future of the party is in the Outer Suburbs" became popular inside the Liberal Party... Now final results are being called, the picture emerging is it's where they've been pushed back to. Not sure it's what they meant. thenightly.com.au/politics/feder…

Once upon a time, local grants were able to be approved or rejected for self-serving political reasons (think: pork barrelling & politicisation). Now they’re decided by experts, on evidence, at arms-length from elected leaders. This reduces waste and improves integrity.

Piccolina’s il Gelato Sandwich – which my high school Italian tells me translates to “the gelato sandwich”. Very rich, perhaps “double the indulgence” needed to be halved. (Sundae in background wishing she could eat chocolate.)

Brent Hodgson yes, just as the battle for kooyong cost them higgins & chisholm in 2022. back then they spent $3m and a few hundred warm bodies on kooyong, leaving a bunch of seats under-resourced. looks like they did it again.

Q: Does it devalue our "highest honours" by granting them so readily to figures who've left the public eye in clouds of dishonour?

“[E]ven ‘teal yoga mums’ are surprisingly receptive to cuts to immigration. They […] have growing concerns about their personal safety in increasingly ‘diverse’ neighbourhoods.” Q: Without using the words “patronising” or “dog-whistling”, how would you describe this commentary?

Browne nails it. The CommunityIndependents movement wasn’t developed at wine bars, or over flat-whites. It was born in the bush, and has already seen (increasingly) strong results there. Non-paywall version here: australiainstitute.org.au/post/hearing-v…

The cancellation of both The Project & Q+A has been on my mind… Both were innovations (of 2008 & 09) that made issues accessible. The lack of innovation since means they leave two huge holes in public discourse – one making issues palatable, the other democratising them.
