Is it half term yet? 😴

I'd like to make a display for my classroom of inspirational/mathematicians that changed the world but in recent history - I'm thinking along the lines of Katherine Johnson, who should I include? Bonus if they're female/poc, I want my kids to see themselves in these people!

In the (highly likely) event my HOD says we don't have money in our budget for a class set of whiteboards & pens, can anyone recommend where I could buy some for very cheap please? May have to break my own rule of never spending my own money on things for my classroom 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just treated myself to one of the funny new calculators because the kids keep asking me how to do things on them and I haven't got a clue how to use them yet. Any new functions I should be aware of?! #mathschat

Any advice on how to write an expression of interest letter please? Absolutely no idea what format they're supposed to take, are they similar to a cover letter?

Organising the maths challenge for my school this year (first time). I was under the impression they could be completed on one of two days, have I totally imagined this? Intermediate is on 31st January but is this the one and only day to complete? Doing online if that's relevant

We've bought online entries for the maths challenge today however we've now got a student who will need to do it on paper, does anyone know if it's possible to print a paper for a single student to then upload? UK Maths Trust

Things the kids say rarely shock me anymore, but the misogynistic comments I heard from some of our boys today really unsettled me. Some days it feels really tough to be a woman in education.

Came home to this today after a particularly hard week last week. Feel so blessed to work with such supportive people I get to call friends 🥰

Got stuck in gridlock traffic this morning because of a crash, so called what I thought was my school to let them know I'd need cover for tutor time. I called my old school didn't I 🤦🏻‍♀️

This year I've got my first top set GCSE class and they are so far an absolute dream to teach. It is sooo nice to have a class full of keen beans that actually want to be there and make my job so easy! Definitely feeling positive about this academic year!

I spent this weekend taking some students on my first DofE expedition, it was great to get outdoors and I'm really enjoying the opportunity to be more involved than just being a classroom teacher - it's taken me 5 years to feel like I could take more on but I'm loving it 😊

Looking at putting on a women in STEM workshop at my school aimed at getting more girls involved in STEM and raising aspirations by getting professionals in to talk. Has anyone done anything similar and could give me some inspiration/tips on how to get started? Please RT 😊

Back to school tomorrow after 2 and a half weeks off with a case of covid that completely took me out, and another week for half term. Definitely feeling more apprehensive than usual about the first Monday back, feeling completely out of the loop 😬

Today I ran my first school trip.. started with 87 year 7s, ended with 87. They enjoyed it and so did I, a successful first trip! (Even if I did come home and have to have a nap because it wiped me out 😴)

One of those random, off topic questions kids have led me to find out this week that one of my year 9s was also taught by my sister in primary school. It's quite a nice coincidence and I bet that doesn't happen very often!
