Upon inspection of the Museum, some damage due to the heavy rainfall has been discovered. Therefore, it has been decided that the MacArthur Museum Brisbane will remain closed until Thursday 10th March so that professionals can inspect and assess the damage.

Every year the MacArthur Memorial hosts an ANZAC Day ceremony. General MacArthur was particularly supportive of ANZAC Day and referred to troops from Australia and New Zealand as "comrades in arms."

Lieutenant (Lt) John F. Kennedy was commanding patrol torpedo boat, PT-109, in August 1943, when a Japanese destroyer ploughed into the starboard side. An Australian Coastwatcher, Lt Arthur Evans, witnessed the collision and helped co-ordinate a rescue. 📗 ow.ly/VBtM50Kevih

After MacArthur's death in 1964, Queen Elizabeth II asked Field Marshal William Joseph Slim, 1st Viscount Slim, to pass a message to Mrs. MacArthur. The Queen praised MacArthur as a distinguished leader of Commonwealth troops "during the years of trial."

Today we commemorate the first bombing of Darwin. On 19th February 1942, 188 aircraft had launched from the Japanese aircraft carriers with their task to sink all shipping in the port, destroy the port facilities and township to prevent them supporting Allied operations.
