I don’t speak of this often. My dad was an immigrant. From the moment he arrived in this country he worked hard every day in labouring jobs. My most vivid memory is of his tired and weary eyes and oil stained overalls after a 12 hour factory shift. Even then he managed a smile.

The fact is, disabled people reacting with anything other than gratefulness & deference for being granted basic human dignity is often perceived as rudeness. And the power nondisabled people have over our lives to enforce that dynamic is extraordinary. No trains for me today.

We will keep fighting, disabled activists warn DWP as they protest against benefit cuts outside Tate Modern disabilitynewsservice.com/we-will-keep-f… via Disability News Service

I want to see non-disabled people shouting about the disability benefit cuts. If you spoke out about trans rights, abortion rights, or migrant rights in recent weeks? Good on you! If you aren’t doing the same for disabled people, ask yourself why.

First Labour resignation klaxon! Vicky Foxcroft MP has resigned as a government whip in protest at the government’s disability benefits cut plans. Good on her. theguardian.com/politics/2025/…

Tomorrow our glorious leaders are voting on assisted suicide, then they're voting for cuts to benefits to help people with serious illnesses & impairments live independently. There's a theme developing. Logan's Run over Star Trek eh? Nice.

I’ve been making my way through the Welfare Reform Bill and this on the gov.uk website is genuinely disgusting. Receiving a decent disability benefits rate “encourages sickness”, does it? Funny, I thought it just enabled severely ill and disabled people to eat.

I’ve worked a lot on the welfare reform bill in recent months - in press, radio, and podcasts - but today’s column is everything I need to say:

A UN committee of disabled experts has told the government that its new benefit cuts bill appears to be a fresh attack on disabled people’s rights, a year after it issued a similar warning to the Conservative government. #DropUCBill disabilitynewsservice.com/urgent-letter-…

EML Hi, I am currently trying to use Prepaid Financial Services portal to pay a carer invoice but the portal is down. The carer is currently out of pocket by a significant amount. Please can someone assist? I have spent a long time on hold but received no information.

EML #prepaidfs disgraceful outtage for 5 days with no information why or when #disabled ppl can access funds 2 pay #carers. Hounslow Council should sue & lend us money in meantime.

Went to a new pub in Camden last night. No accessible toilet again. I do wonder when Camden Council will use their powers to allow disabled people to live equally in the borough. I mean a toilet in a pub is reasonable surely?

Hi SWR Help please tell your platform staff at Clapham Junc. that they should NOT criticise disabled people for not booking assistance in advance, should NOT pressure disabled people to always book assistance in advance. Turn-up-and-go is our legal right!

Out in Camden with my family & mates. Where do I need to go to the loo? Home because almost no where has an accessible loo. Be nice if my local council enforced the law but hey, too difficult. So us wheelies can't enjoy Camden. Can't imagine the nightmare if I was visiting.

The UK has much to offer but many hotels, BnBs etc fail to promote their offering to those who need ground floor rooms, hoists, braille menus, colostomy hooks or venues where BSL is signed. Let me know your favourite accessible places to stay in the UK. #AccessibleTourism

*Deadline extended* Do you know a #Staffordshire #tourism business that deserves a chance in the spotlight? There are lots of categories including ‘#Accessible and Inclusive’ - the winner of which will go forward to the VisitEnglandBiz national awards. Fiona Jarvis

Two wheelchair users travel together - shock horror! Imagine what would have happened if two wheelchair users wanted to stay in the same hotel room *at the same time* ? #Accessibility #AccessibleTourism
