Introducing the Departmental talks for the 2020 Annual Biophysics Symposium Kevin Wood Julie Biteen and Aaron Frank. Save the Date: 3.13.2020 Theme: Complex Systems in Biology Anderson Hall, Michigan Union, 9-5pm Register for the event: ow.ly/Otjz50yubDK

I started making a list of all the things I need to do to take my Spring 2020 course entirely online, got immediately overwhelmed, and then procrastinated by watching Simone Giertz make a brain-shaped paper shredder.

Happy to see this one out PLOS Biology. We slowed down drug-resistant bacteria with...sensitive bacteria! Fun collaboration with the woods lab and Andrew Read group (PSU). Co-led by Elsa Hansen and recent Michigan Biophysics PhD Jason Karslake. journals.plos.org/plosbiology/ar…

I'm thrilled we're on pnas's cover (pnas.org/content/117/33…). Caitlin Cornell & our team used cryoEM to identify domains in phase-separated membranes by probe-free & labeling techniques. Also check out the linked (simultaneous) paper by our super colleagues Ilya Levental et al!

The ladies of the Luka Lab (Pocivavsek Lab) took Biophysical Society by storm!! Repping The University of Chicago all the way Anna Willa Li #WomenInSTEM

Last week, my group along with Ben Machta published new measurements of cholesterol availability in membranes made from mixtures with one or two phospholipids in Biophysical Journal. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Congratulations to Blessing Nnate who presented her work on fluid structure interaction modeling in aortic dissections at the The University of Chicago Undergraduate Research Symposium! UChicagoAorta UChicago Surgery

Introducing Dr. Thomas Shaw! Congrats to Thomas for a great talk and thesis -- and check out that cake made by veatchlab members and alums including Sarah Shelby Adam Decker (he/him) Jenny Flanagan-Natoli, PhD inspired by a figure made by Anna Gaffney!

Congrats to Anna Gaffney for winning the poster competition in theory and computation at the Biophysical Society meeting! Amazing work on a generalized continuum model of lipid monolayer elasticity implemented with finite elements.
