Just heard the BBC Singers are to be disbanded. It’s not only an awful loss for them, exceptionally talented musicians and wonderful people, it also subtracts from our cultural life something that took about a century to create and we won’t get back.

Entirely agree. Terrible.

It’s a dark day for choral music in the U.K. with the news that the BBC is disbanding the BBC Singers. We’ll absolutely be culturally worse-off without them, and that’s to say nothing of the devastation for the skilled singers and staff, for whom this was their livelihood.

The cruelest part of this stupid decision is the attempt to spin it as part of a master plan to improve "quality, agility, and impact", when these are 3 of the choir's finest qualities. It's insulting to everything they've accomplished.

Incredibly disappointing that the BBC Singers have been given no place in the BBC’s future ‘vision’ for classical music. The group deserves to be placed at the heart of it. This pic from happier times in Dubai a few years ago, but today marks a very sorry day indeed.
