Bangladesh is facing a crucial turning point in history. The country has experienced unprecedented loss of life, violence, and destruction over the past month, alongside unmatched courage, sacrifice, and resilience shown by its young people. We deeply mourn the loss of so many

A grim situation, and rains expected to continue. Hundreds of thousands of people stranded and multiple rivers flowing above danger levels. Some of these people just started replanting their fields after the last floods. When will they get a break?

A graphic description of the floods ravaging 🇧🇩 by BRAC’s head of climate change in Bloomberg today - “people had no time to save anything. Entire villages, all the families in them, everything they owned – livestock, farmlands, fisheries – washed away.” bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Floods destroy homes, crops, livelihoods. But what lurks beneath the water - cholera, scabies, infections - is often overlooked. As Dr Nishat told BBC this week, receding water is unveiling a health crisis in Bangladesh. Click below or here (from 39:27): bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/w1…

Every Messi/Ronaldo discussion in 🇧🇩 ends with a sigh about us not having our own GOAT (Greatest Of All Time). Maybe we did, in Rifat. Then he was shot, and his leg amputated. Maybe we still have our greatest in him. Many like him haven’t given up. Let's not give up on them.

Rifat Howlader is a football star in his neighbourhood. He was shot during the recent protests and had to have his leg amputated. He's now got a prosthetic leg, which he learnt to use in just a day on YouTube. I look forward to seeing him back on the field.
