nature.com/articles/s4146… Our new paper is out Nature Communications! The "hook" is at the base of the rotating flagellum in motile bacteria. Mechanically, the hook is an universal joint: its bending allows the more rigid flagellum to orient in any direction, while rotating. 7CGO 1/6
