Our elder statesman - Legend the Canada Lynx, who at 21 years of age, is still looking handsome. His winter coat is one of the plushest, a plus for an animal that spends most of his life in the cold and snow.

Our mischevious pranksters are always entertaining. Raccoons are intensely curious, and their hands are their primary sense organ.

Chilly morning today with about an inch of new snow. Some of our residents live the cold and snow - our wolves are certainly in that group!

Raccoon acrobatics! These guys (and girls) are so much fun to watch. They are natural gymnasts, using all four hands and feet to grasp branches or fencing.

#tbt Elsie the mountain lion shortly after she arrived - she was severely malnourished, her back legs were injured, causing a limp. Even so, she was was a feisty girl, letting everyone know what she thought about these humans.

Jake and Elwood, our silver “red foxes” just love their new, larger enclosure. They now have a yard with trees and bushes, and several platforms where they can run and jump. In the winter their beautiful fur really fills in and they are downright fluffy!

What’s that smell? It's a flehmen response! Flehmen Response is the scientific term for when an animal uses extra senses to discern a smell. When they open their mouth, they draw in more of the scent, using both their sense of smell and sense of taste! #animalarkreno

Katniss, our North American Kestrel demonstrating a rouse. In cooler temperatures, birds will often rouse, or ‘poof’ their feathers. This motion raises their feathers away from their bodies helps to insulate the bird. It is also performed when a bird is feeling safe or content!

Legend the Lynx passed this morning with our staff and veterinarian present. Over the past few weeks his health had begun to rapidly deteriorate having lost motor control as well his equilibrium. He lived almost 22 years and was beloved by our team at the Ark.
