The value of sustained, long-term, direct observation. Our new paper in NatureClimate led by @Amy_Benno reveals the impact of heat and drought on South American tropical forests. More than 100 colleagues measured trees for 30 years across the continent. nature.com/articles/s4155…

A new PhD started today. She asked for general advice for the first few months. This was my advice: 1. Don’t work evenings or weekends 2. Don’t aim to prove yourself (to me), I’m already convinced of your capacities 3. Go for a walk when things dazzle you (1/3)

📢Exciting news: the Caribbean island of Redonda has been granted protected area status! In just a few short years, Redonda has been transformed from barren ‘moonscape’ into a thriving wildlife sanctuary, & will now be one of the largest protected areas in the Caribbean.

Workshop with forest managers discussing implications of our FoRCE research for managing the Australian Wet Tropics last month. Many people “hate” the native & exotic vines now smothering the forests after all the cyclones and logging! But should we be cutting them?

🌸 Ecosystem restoration aims to reverse damage, restore habitats, and revive biodiversity through efforts like reforestation, wildflower meadow enhancement, wetland restoration, and coral reef restoration 🪸 But why do some restoration projects succeed while others falter? 👇

I am a little late in sharing this one as coincidentally, I was in Tanzania, at the same location where we carried out this newly published work. Another fantastic output from Alain Ngute as part of our FoRCE.

Forests aren't recovering from cyclones in the Australian Wet Tropics and vines, especially rattans, are likely to be the cause. Our work is ongoing, but this is a significant first step. Great work led by PhD student @EmmaMackintosh4.
