‘The concept phase’ is the absolute worst time to be using generative AI. You’re poisoning your creation at the root, you’re immediately limiting your vision. Why on earth would you ever do that???

so many incredible games have been made over the years without the use of gen ai you have absolutely no excuse for using it. i don’t give a flying fuck if it’s for concepts or early stage development, it is nowhere near an essential tool for the development of a game.

"It's the same as using Google and books for reference!" Then why not fucking use Google and Books for references as artist have done for decades? Using AI to assist with "generating ideas" is like tracing a picture and saying I drew it with my pen so it counts as mine.

When the Final Fantasy 12 art team was developing concepts, the team took a trip to the ancient world of former Alexandria and did something called RESEARCH. The result was rich and beautiful world called Ivalice that could be felt with all five senses. That's how art is made.
