Fantastic big birding day by bike. 107 species seen with highlights being a Woodcock flying to its day roost and a Red-necked Grebe off Port Seton. A great start to 2025! Birding Lothian

A fantastic days birding in Lothian today competing in the annual bird race! 97 species seen with highlights being Red-necked Grebe, Black-tailed Godwit and Woodcock. Though we missed some sitters! Congrats Jarrod Hadfield who won in the tie breaker against us.

A great afternoonâs birding at Seafield after my last prelim This gorgeous Mediterranean Gull was the best that I saw as well as very distant views of a Hen Harrier on Inchkeith (does that count as a Lothian tick?đ) Birding Lothian

Great trip to Duddingston this afternoon. My first Mediterranean Gull ever on the loch was a surprise. 2 RN Parakeets was my first multiple birds sighting. 12 Whooper Swans going north was nice to see. Also a singing Chiffchaff and calling Water Rails. Birding Lothian

No sign of the King Eider from Seafield, Portobello or Joppa. Viewing conditions were difficult with sea fog being a problem for most of the morning. Nice to see my first Pintails and Black Guillemot of the year off Joppa. Birding Lothian

A fantastic day at Musselburgh. 100 species seen in 8 hours. Completely surpassed my expectations! Highlights being a Yellow Wagtail, Little Ringed Plovers, Jack Snipe, Common Terns and the superb Lesser Whitethroat that has been singing its heart out! Birding Lothian

A quick stop to Musselburgh yesterday evening. Both the Temminckâs Stints and the Garganey were still present from the left hand hide. Really nice views of both species. Birding Lothian

A really nice trip to Musselburgh yesterday evening. Highlights being the pair of Avocets found earlier in the day on the old scrapes and finding a pair of Temminckâs Stints (new birds?) on the new lagoons (shown in video). Birding Lothian
