I was 39 when I had a heart attack, and it took me over a decade to get the information I needed to understand that high lipoprotein(a) was a contributing factor. Unfortunately, this is an all too common story. #KnowLpa @thefhfoundation Read my story: FamilyHeart.org/genetics-heart…

There are 2 ways Lp(a) can be measured. Be sure to check whether your test results are in nmol/L or mg/dL. Results over 50 mg/dL or 125 nmol/L are considered high & could increase the risk for heart attack, stroke, peripheral artery disease, or calcified aortic stenosis. #KnowLpa

A5: Elevated Lp(a) could be the hidden cause of premature cardiovascular disease. A simple blood test is all that is required. If someone tests positive for an Lp(a) disorder, family screening should be encouraged. Our Care Navigation Center can help. #KnowLpa @thefhfoundation

A6: Lp(a) levels are inherited and not driven by diet. It is not curable, but there are things you can do, such as, manage all other risk factors for heart disease & stroke. Contact our dedicated Care Navigators for possible screening at 844-434-6334. #KnowLpa @thefhfoundation

Today is #FHAwarenessDay! Prevent early đź’— #HeartDisease by raising awareness of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). Together we can help save generations of families from heart disease. #KnowFH Katherine Wilemon

A4: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends #cholesterol testing at age 2 with a family history of FH or #HeartDisease and 9-11 for all children. This is especially important to find and treat #HoFH ASAP. #FHCantWait #KnowFH

A2: Really, every single day should be FH Awareness Day! FH is one of the most common genetic disorders and most people have never heard of it. There are two types of FH: heterozygous and homozygous. Heterozygous is much more common, and homozygous is more severe. #KnowFH

A3: Lowering LDL-C has a big impact on reducing cardiovascular disease risk over the life course. For every 40 mg/dL reduction in LDL that is maintained for about 5 years, a person’s risk of heart disease or events falls by 20% #KnowFH youtu.be/co76EejedSY
