Today is the 56th anniversary of the Inangahua Earthquake, which killed 3 and injured 14. The small locality of farmers, miners, electrical workers, and Railway families (including mine) was evacuated to Reefton, many never returning to Inangahua.

KiwiRails "blast from the past" get more and more absurd. KiwiRail exited the profitable car transport market in 2014, because it didn't fit the container-only strategy dreamt up by the government appointed board. Net result: rail freight has decreased further. Stupidity.

Back living on the Coast now, its good to be home. Goodbye Ōtautahi Christchurch, I'll be back to visit soon! 👋

Remembering my great great uncle Thomas Gillanders, killed in action 110 years ago on 25 April 1915, during the landing at Gallipoli while serving with the 16th Waikato Company, Auckland Battalion.

Today, we honour and remember those who served and sacrificed for our country. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. To the end, they remain. Ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātou.

On this ANZAC Day, we pause to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who served and continue to serve. #LestWeForget

Remembering Granddad a year after his passing. Where did that time go?

The Southerner passenger train going out of Invercargill City to Dunedin City and Christchurch City in New Zealand.

Ch 2 'Sunday in Dunedin' ends with Starkie stating "Always Sunday in Dunedin". Touché! At one point, "Towards evening he was in the bar of the City Hotel. . ." that would not have changed much since seen here on the righthand corner c. 1900 and before its art deco refit in 1930s.

Had an amazing trip down to Dunedin on the Southerner Train this week. What an awesome city steeped in history! Kiwirail are looking to run some more Southerner trains in October, I hope this turns into a permanent Chch-Dunedin train Service! 🚞
